the new motors are smaller, lighter, and were designed and produced as kart race engines. Unlike say an EcoMoto that is mostely Kawasaki.
Bilands, EcoMoto's can be picked up very cheaply and the Eco is very easily tuned to be competitive. A brand new Swiss Auto or Tech-F1 are well over £2000 so if people start messing around with them costs will quickly go through the roof and kill the class. The EcoMoto's is now pretty much as fast as it is going to get without seriously compromising its life.
Its a choice, Buy a cheap engine and work on your own tuning setup, or buy a new engine ready to compete at the front.
They need to be kept standard to keep costs down and keep the older engines in the game. FYI the guy you need to beat for wins uses a 300cc EcoMoto on a 2002 LRG!!!! Knows that kart inside out, worth more than a little extra power.
As for the Suter Vampire, it went out of production with "un-named issues" never did find out what the problem was, just that it was too expensive to redesign it and keep building them.
