I agree that you don't want another engine to muddy the water, although I think the standard bottom end sealed and a GX200 head gasket for pool engines is excellent.

But as a point of interest the new range of Kohler engines are made in China, as are many (genuine)Honda GX160 now coming in as parallels to the UK.

As for clone engines, they are not all the same. Some are direct copies from a Honda and are quite good. But others are copies of copies, even copies of copies of copies and so on. Imagine a fax resent several times and you get the idea.
