There seems to be a fundemental misunderstanding of what an SP engine really is, this is no accident, the whole concept of a fixed price for an SP engine is purely a sales technique. The only reasonable definition of a fixed price SP engine could perhaps be one where any really bad parts have been rejected. In other words, most 'SP' engines are probably no different to standard ones.
Because the performance of true SP engines is virtually open ended, as is the price, because you must also apply the laws of diminishing returns. Virtually every part on these engines have slightly different production tolerences but the differences between batches can be huge. Thus buying 20 engines might get you 20 good heads or 20 bad ones, only if you get the good batch will a few of these be really good and truly 'selected'.
The more engines you look at the more likely you are to find special parts, it's a bit like getting a winning lottery ticket, it could be a tenner or it could be a million. Obviously the tenner is better than nothing but to get a million you would need to get thousands of 10 pound winning tickets and many others in between.
Thus just as the performance of a standard engine is variable, the performance of an SP engine is open ended.
So the whole concept of a fixed price for an 'SP' engine really is absurd. It's quite clear that the really good 'Million pound' parts will not be going on these engines.
Because if so, just like, losing lottery tickets, it would beg the question, what happens to all the 'unselected' parts?
Furthermore, regardless of how much difference there really is, the whole concept of SP engines does enormous damage to the concept of equal racing and the sport in general. IMO It's one of the biggest reasons for people rejecting the sport.
