Oil should be checked in the sight glass when hot and immediately the engine is turned off, it finds its own level if over filled so what you now have is the correct level. The engine will use a small amount so top up ever 30 minutes with a very small amount and every thing will be fine. As to the Alfano it needs to be set for a twin cylinder, I always had an intermittent fault with mine and changed to a Mychron 4 which is great.
