This is the whole problem with Karting now. Obsession with power and laps times. When it should be cost or lack of it and closeness of racing that is important.
The only racing that I have seen that comes anywhere near the Adult formula Suburu cup, in terms of anyone can win close racing, is an S1 Cadet final.
In terms of performance a 100kg Honda Cadet with a tuned GX200 putting out about 9hp (2hp more than a good 160 for comparison) puts in about the same lap time as a 120kg Suburu, on the same wheels and tyres. These are actually Maxxis Rookie cadet tyres butI believe that the same outfit tested on Rotax wheels and tyres was about a second faster again. Which is about right because here the Adult poleman put in the same time as the Junior poleman but with 30kg more. If that makes sense.
IMO, the actual outright lap time is irrelevent, what matters is that engines are equal and reliable enough to be sealed for at least a seasons use. THe KX21 is and I don't believe there is another 4 stroke engine out there that you could say the same about.
