Hi, my son races a TKM4S at club level. We love it and it must be the cheapest form of karting. Total running costs for this year excluding tyres were 4 litres oil £45 Fuel pump diaphragm £8. Carb rubber £15. I think we were lucky with the carb rubber as these can go more frequently. As long as you are meticulous with the oil changes and running in when new or after a rebuild these motors are almost maintenance free. We had a rebuild at the beginning of the season, the motor now has about 25 hours on it so at that rate a rebuild will be due at the end of the 2011 season (really!). For next season I will renew the clutch friction plate and probably the clutch cage. If they do go pop though a rebuild will be expensive. Our service cost about £350 and was just routine. Obviously Super 1 will be more expensive but the motor will still not need to be rebuilt until it reaches about 80 hours. The only problem is that for some reason they're not that popular. We run them in the IoM but there are not many other places that I'm aware of. I don't understand why! They're cheap to run and quick.
