the pulse pump gets the 'pulse' from either the top of the crankcase ( the alloy boss, previously occupied by the old governor mechanism, is tapped out to fit the fittng)or the inlet port casting.
A fitting, commonly called a banjo bolt, is screwed into the tapping and flexible pipe is fitted between the fitting and the pump.
The ideal setup has a short almost rigid pipe feeding the pump. If you use the crankcase fitting method beware of oil mist spoiling the pump diaphragm. Inverting the pump helps. An in tank brass fuel pickup keeps the fuel line down at the bottom of the tank. If you suffer from overfuelling you may need to return some(restrict the return fuel) of the fuel, just before the carb by T'ing into the line and letting it return back to the fuel tank.
