A subject rather close to my heart, too, Eifion. My son is of very similar age and also far too tall to fit into any present-day karting mould. In fact any notion of racing is unrealistic. So I looked at this from the perspective of occasional track-day outings only (he has other major sporting commitments anyway – and just as well!). Chassis-wise the choice was clear: no point in getting a cadet that he would outgrow in a matter of months at the latest. A senior chassis works well for him.
I looked long and hard into engine options and ultimately decided that there is only one: Rotax Mini/Junior – especially with the easy power up/downgrade it offers.
Your son’s situation may be different, of course. Nor do I have any idea what racing options there might be for you locally.
However, karting simply doesn’t cater for taller people yet. The market is missing (another) big trick here, and ignoring the fact that people will only get taller and in larger numbers.
