Gave up Rotax Max 2 years ago,too expensive,so decided to go prokart way,[senior]as it seems to be getting really popular with massive grids. We have spoken to a lot of the lads at the last meeting ,5th April, and everyone was so helpful. The general opinion was that we should go for RPM engines and an MS,7KART,or WRIGHT rolling chassis. We rang RPM and ordered 2 GX160s which were delivered on Wednesday, with pulse pumps fitted under top cover.Engine Nos QHG4 GCAFT-2295155 and 56. As we dont know a thing about the Honda motors can anybody help with some very basic questions
1]-The Carbs. Is the black plastic 2 slot screw for idling? Are there any other screws which require basic settings before running in? idle jets etc.
2]-Two oil fillers, one black, one grey. Do we put oil in both and if so how much.[Two litres of cooloil were supplied with engines]
3]Running-in. Will look out for second hand Alfano or similar. How many laps at what revs should we do before letting these beasts have the full throttle. It says 2000 revs with blips to 4000 on UK Karting Tech Tips. Will obviously keep changing the oil.Do I flush out with petrol?
First we need a kart. Would like to find an MS about 2006 with as much on it as possible- eg. engine mounts, chain guard[They seem expensive]How much is a fair price for a 2006?. Will also need new clutches. Are the cheap 20tooth ones from kartpartdirect at £12.95 any good?, our output shafts measure 3/4"dia. From past experience with other classes we will get best quality chains although they do not seem an expensive item.Would like to get to know the engines a little better first as £920 is an incentive to look after them correctly. Will also use Shell V power.
All help will be much appreciated also tips regarding prokarts for any extas required to satisfy scrutineering. I will do another message when I think of more things.
Regards David
