I just wanted to hear everyones views on different circuits and different events. The question I ask is whether or not karting is a contact sport. I always thought it wasnt.
I recently competed in an event in Biland where in the final another driver deliberately tried to drive me off the track. I'm not going to go into details but on a number of occasions i got along side him for an overtake, and he turned his kart into me everytime. I had witnesses off the track who saw it, and other drivers behind me who saw the other competitor purposefully in a straight line turn his kart into me everytime i went past him. After the race I was told by regular competitors that this was how he drove and he always does it, and he has never been punished. Furthurmore, the drivers who compete for fun have stopped going recently because of this one guy, deeming it too dangerous.
However no one seems to bat an eyelid. No marshall reported any incidents, and the Clerk had the cheek to tell me after the race he thought it was a good clean race. Does anyone else have any gripes with this? I know people will say its my opinion, but on the same day i saw another incident in the TKM junior class that made me question whether marshalls actually bother with their job. One competitor came over the back of another and ripped his rear bumper off, and the surrounding marshalls laughed. No Flags. No one retrieving the bumper that was now in the middle of the track. The clerk had to go do it himself in the end, and consequently had a shouting match with a nearby marshall. Is karting now rewarding over aggressive and dangerous driving?
