That’s why Alice-in-Wonderland logic like this needs to be bypassed.

Yes, chicken and egg. When the development cost of an engine has been amortised long ago and it rolls off the production line by the 100s of thousands you get a very affordable Honda. Similar situation with Rotax, though not quite those numbers but I’ll bet they’re hugely profitable. Everything else just cannot be in the same ball park. They have to charge what they do to even stand a chance of being profitable. Even then it didn’t work for Suter (leaving aside that other factor).
