We dont spend loads of cash and we are fairly competitive. Ok there are some that are open cheque book racing and allegedly have very expensive engines, but there is at least one cadet I can think of that you could put in a bath tub and they would still be up at the front. My conclusion is that money can put you at the front of the grid in cadets, but if they cant drive youre wasting your time. How much good all this cash will do as they get older for some is questionable, as they need talent, and in the more senior classes the returns for cash is reduced. We have actually lost more through marshalling decisions than we have through not having a very expensive engine in tip top condition. Regardless of the budget I want to see happy kids in the paddock, and sometimes you get the impression that for some the fun has gone, and some parents need to have a plan 'B' for their kids if the plan 'a' to be a professional driver doesnt happen!
