I’m a complete novice when it comes to karting and I have no mechanical knowledge/ability whatsoever so I hope my description of my problem makes sense!
I have previously cleaned the carbs and changed the air filter but recently decided to venture out and adjust the valve clearances (following the guide on here and watching YouTube videos).
I have adjusted them to the recommended starting point (as per the guide) and as part of the process changed the spark plug and valve springs (to G4). However, the engine appears to be making a strange noise that wasn’t there before. It starts and revs ok but there is a metal ringing noise coming from the rocker cover area (it is not the clutch or chain). It is difficult to describe but I would say it sounds ‘tappety’ (ticking like noise) and as if metal is hitting another piece of metal.
The exhaust rocker arm is quite stiff (no sideways or up/down movement) but the inlet rocker arm has quite a bit of sideways movements. When I took off the rocker cover (before doing anything), it was sitting slightly to the side of where it should be (rolled off to the right) although it was still covering the valve collet. Once I changed the spring and did up the nuts, the rocker arm still had sideways movement. It doesn't seem to tighten up.
Could this be the cause of the noise?
Does this noise mean my engine is about to blow up?
Not sure if the information below is relevant but thought I’d include it anyway in case it helps:
Engines were bought second hand and I believe I have a T1 engine (probably a basic spec and in average condition)
G4 springs were much shorter than the previous springs
The engine didn’t make the noise before I changed the spark plug and valve springs.
The other engine doesn't make this noise (I haven't changed the springs yet but have put in a new spark plug)
Thanks
