this recently started happening to us, but we are on a 2106 Synergy.....the chain was jumping around the sprocket, and created a triangle shape of scuffs on the side of the sprocket around the 3 bolts......I was told to use 6 bolts, but for me the logic did not add up, as the sprocket is well clamped and everything is perfectly aligned, admittedly we use a floating sprocket carrier.

The problem was simple, the chain was overly internally worn allowing too much lateral link movement, I replaced the chain with a new one and the problem went away.....if you google around this chain-jump a common problem for any chain driven vehicle after the chain is worn out, such as mountain bikes, dont mess about with it, just throw the chain in the bin and fit a new one.
