I think we could be on the right track (pun intended) in tkm, the tag engine needed more power to be competitive against the direct drive engines because of the extra inertia of the crank assembly (tag has a clutch and starter ring). Tkm tag engines have a 5mm bigger diameter exhaust and higher compression ratio to take away the disadvantage of the extra inertia.
Back to the Honda, so maybe a lighter clutch, more usually found on a 2 stroke, would the Iame type, without separate shoes/springs be legal?? Certainly the v clutch like the tkm would, maybe the company that makes the v clutch, do a lighter series clutch, as the Honda produces less than half the power?
Could you, even go for a 2 stroke style 10t clutch sprocket and get a axle carrier to take the 40ish teeth you'd meet to get the gearing to work? That'd take some inertia out of the system!
