The rumor doing the rounds is that certain engine builders (like many of them!) have been cunningly machining down the blocks early/mid in the 2015 season to the minimum allowed tolerance, which is a window of 0.6mm, which believe me is massive and equivalent to 2.19cc of combustion volume..... they had managed to replicate the machining marks quite well, therefore avoiding the scrutineers suspicion, really this just saves the aggro and cost of finding a low deck height standard block so not strictly cheating, but the V10 regs did say "standard and un-modified" so take your pick!..... Speculation on my behalf, I believe this is done via using a rotary mounting table to create the curvature, as the Honda factory would not machine 1 at a time they probably did 10 at a time on a 5 foot diameter rotary table......all of which would explain whey they are fast out of the box and didnt need 40 hours to coke up the head to increase the compression ratio......its nothing to do with the batch numbers, more the engine builders tricks up their sleeve!
