There is no reason on a kart that is running anything like properly to NOT have the fuel valve fully open.
None of us can tell from here if there is any swarf in the barrel. You can try to have a good look..... but that's about it. We also can't tell if whatever-it-was that came out the exhaust was swarf from the plug hole or just loose carbon or loose exhaust baffles without see the 'debris' itself.
How quickly you see any damage would depend on how lucky you were with any damage. If the swarf punched a hole in the piston (unlikely) then you notice instantly. If it has just lightly marked the piston/head.... you'll never notice it until you open the engine.
In all probability, you will have got away with it: you'd need to unlucky to have the aluminium swarf do much damage.... but...
For me, I'd still be concerned about the plug not being 'in' properly and/or the thread being too damaged to hold the plug in place. You'll know instantly if the plug 'pops' out..... In that case, do NOT grab it...... the spark will still be occurring and you'll get it all! How do I know? I have done it and I won't do that twice!
