Hi
I am just ahead of you. I have been racing off road bikes for 10 years and a couple of friends bought karts, I thought it was expensive and that put me off.
I bought a pro kart 6 months ago for £400, had to buy a lid, race suit and stand as well and already accumulated loads of spares. I only do testing days and usually on a Friday so me and my mates usually have the track to ourselves to race against each other. I don't intend to race at the moment and if I did it would be a modified pro kart class.
The pro karts aren't the fastest but it is the most fun i have ever had. Also with the pro kart there are loads of bits you can do to get more out of the engines and the bits aren't expensive. A couple of my friends have two strokes and they are just too high maintenance.
IMO if you want to give it a go and see what it's like get a pro kart, you can learn your skills and move up to something quicker if you want to race. We have converted one of our 2 stroke friends by sharing karts, getting three friends all out at the same time on the same type of karts is brilliant
You will want a friend, partner or parent to come with you ideally to help move the kart around. A pro kart is virtually bullet proof and you could easily share it with a friend or get two?
