Actually Brian it is a very good observation. The record for the other classes is irrelevant in this instance. With engine performance being equalised the performances become more of a factor of a combination of chassis set up and driver skill and the fact that the two leading protagonists were shaving hundredths off each other's respective lap records, coupled with their determination to race to win fairly, shows that man and machine are being pushed towards the limit of their collective achievement.
You might argue that the motors are getting some time on them and perhaps delivering a little more than when new. Whilst Grant's have done every meeting this year they still only have 7 hours running whilst Ben's have done significantly less than that. What about tyres then? Grant was on older rubber whilst Ben was on a new set for this meeting and the difference after all that is 0.02sec.
We may have a fractured class in a fractured sport at the moment but nothing can take away the true sportsmanship and race craft that was displayed yesterday. It was fantastic to watch and be a part of. Well done lads.
