It will help. However, not by much.

If you can reduce YOUR height in the kart (lower the seat, rotate it backward, lose weight...... etc.) you will have a greater effect because you weigh much more than the engine! I would argue that such a change will allow you to narrow the rear of the kart which will reduce the drag in the corners but my view is very unfashionable about this!
