Lasers are completely unnecessary. Marking the tyre as indicated above might be crude/rudimentary but it works. Tracking discs might make life a little simpler and slightly more accurate due to their greater diameter than the wheel and lasers provide the same information quicker but are, in my opinion, no more accurate than disciplined use of a tape measure (and I have lasers and use them because I have them).
From what has been described if wear is noticeable on the inside edge of the tyre on relatively short period of time even if you are not that good with a tape measure I am sure marking the tyre will show this up.
The assumption made, however, that everything else is fine with the chassis. Front end geometry as a whole would be best checked and not just Camber in isolation (one on has mentioned tracking at this stage. Too much too out will also cause wear to the inside edge of a tyre). Further, it would be wise to check that there is no wear in any of the bearings and rose joints as clearly any movement will be exacerbated under forward movement of the chassis on the track.
