Getting the most out of tuning a GX160 yourself and then translating that into lap times is what motorsport should be about.
What it shouldn't be about is tinkering with an engine that is supposed to be a level platform for racing, to gain an advantage. That's when it gets boring.
Best fun we had in karting was when we got bored of all the parts selection BS that comes with racing and took a GX200 and slowly but surely tuned it to the point that a good driver was able to set faster times in the dry than the 100cc IAME PUMA (that's a 2 stroke :) )and even mix it with all the Rotax Max (club level) in mixed wet practice.
The funniest thing you'll ever see was what looked like a standard Honda cadet going around the outside of 3 (all the gear/no idea Rotax) in one corner and still be in front by the end of the backstraight.
