Hi Bob, Do we want to have fair , level, racing as cheap as possible OR do we want to share the points out to "other" teams ?
Your EPEC rules are very good :-
1) everyone uses the same fuel 2) everyone draws from the same pool of tyres, without enough time before using to "interfere" with them. 3) weighing after every trip out onto the track would be better. ( A digital green/red light system with automatic recording would help with weight "irregularities") 4) driving standards are usually well policed. 5) which leaves engines - the top boys or first place challengers cannot afford to use anything but the best available. This either means getting the best contacts or paying ludicrous amounts of money. They have to be policed by having a good scrutineer, doing a good job and publishing their findings as quickly as possible. However, "the best available engines" could be a buy back system ( by competitors) and replacement engines supplied to an agreed standard by the EPEC organisers ( or their nominated agents)
Sharing the points around. Success weight the first extra 5kg would penalise around a tenth. 10kg by 3-5 tenths and 20kg by seconds and destroy the handling of the kart. What about an x lap penalty. 5kg @ 0.1 sec per lap in a 400 lap 6hr race. e.g. a 1 or 2 lap deficit on the field at the start.
classes - but make the classes obvious/stand out - red "big foot" and red bumper/number plates for Pro. Yellow for Clubman etc so that competitors and spectators can see how close rivals are.
More classes Pro, clubman, vintage clubman, heavy clubman, experienced clubman, novice clubman etc
More visual track information, the "my laps" timimg screens in the awning increased interest in what was happening. "Expert" predictions during race and "spotting" of interesting situations developing.
