I would recommend you buy a Clubman spec engine, straight off, not much more than a standard engine, once you factor in all the extra's needed, especially the cam timing adjutment and torque hone that is essential to be anywhere near competitive. If you get one from a builder who doesn't also offer SP engines, you might even get a good one, as any good bits won't have been robbed out of it.
