I have used both and still do use both the Alfano and the Mychron 4 on a regular basis.
To put it simply i will give the plus and minus for both and hopefully that will help make your decision easier. :)
Alfano
+ Very robust and never seems to go wrong.
+ its cheaper than the Mychron.
+ its easyish to use once u work out the cominations of buttons to press.
+ If all u want is something to tell u your lap times and your revs then is perfect!
- As stated above, if u push the wrong button at the wrong time, woosh, all your data - its all gone :(
- No splits for the lap untill u come of circuit and go through them individualy.
- No additional info or options when compared to the mychron.
Mychron 4
+ Superb data and feedback available from gprs.
+ split times as your on track.
+ theoritical best laps
+ start line option
+ rev graphs of every lap from start to end
+ top 3 best times all on one screen
+ various options and settings which are easy to understand and navigate through.
+ menus have writing and pictures :) easy
- although not encountered too many issues they r not quite as reliable as Alfano.
- batteries dont last near as long, esp if using gprs.
- dont look as cool if your image concious lol.
In summary if u want a simple cheap tool for giving u lap times and revs then go for the alfano, if you want something to improve your lap times and find out where and what your doing wrong as well as having all the additional info the alfano simply doesnt have then go for the Mychron!
For me the mychron is the way to go, its by far the most superior but im a hypocrit as right now im running an alfano on my kart as the Mychron belong to our hire drivers lol.
