Road Rat - you don't really thing the engine builders who produce SP engines bin all the parts they don't use in them do you???
Of course they don't!!! All the engine builders supply 'standard' race tuned engines and the barrels, parts, etc. end up in them......

I for one am for over-boring, and here is my rational:-

The top teams have the money (it seems) to pay stupid money for SP engines, and would have the same money to pay for ficheing, overboring to max and binning the engines, or any other mod that was allowed - certainly in the EPEC, these Elite teams will still be fighting it out amongst themselves and the rest of us mere mortals would see their rear bumpers every half an hour or so, just as now....
However, the half a dozen or so knacked barrels sitting under my bench, wasting away, are a potential resourse for my team, and a potential financial saving over a race season if I could just re-bore them and fit new pistons and rings. I can do this three times and potentiall keep the same engines for many years, just changing internals when necessary.
The Elites MAY go out and overbore new engines and scrap them after a season, but at least us Clubbies would have made a saving......
