What are the pros and cons of blue printing an engine to a certain specification?
In my opinion I can see no cons.

I came into prokarts via 100cc/rotax max 3 years ago. Where I race everybody uses RPM. So I decided to go with a different engine tuner. I bought two untuned motors, put a few hours on them then sent them away to get tuned. First race I blew everybody away (0.5 secs!) 2 and a half years and many race wins/championships later turns out my engines had a few illegal mods done to it! I wasn't caught but tipped off by a friend to check my engine for certain tolerances.

Once I found out they were illegal I then bought two standard motors off RPM and while I'm still up at the front competing for wins, these engines are nowhere near as fast as the 'tuned' ones.

I cannot compare the 'tuned' engines to SP because I have never used SP (cannot jusify to myself spending £2000 on engines) but I think they would be as quick if not quicker.

If every tuner had set tolerances to work to which could be policed in exactly the same way as engines are checked now for honda specs then this would even the engines up. You are still going to get differences in engines but nowhere near what they are now!

Then maybe we could get rid of SP engines once and for all!!
