TKM 4s is 19hp roughly same as a good BT82. However unlike a good BT82 , it still has 19hp after 80hrs usage. The TKM 4s has bags more torque which gives it the edge in the dry , but not in the wet.
Engine is heavier than a 2 stroke as it also has a radiator on it plus the cams etc.
The 4s with the TKM Red slicks on is (usually)faster in the dry than a TKM 2 s , however with the new maxxis greens the difference is very very close.
When we used to run at Rednal Race track against Rotax, with Maxxis reds we often beat them , especially when they had standing starts. And on twisty tracks the TKM 4s will beat most Rotax drivers with ease. On the old shorter Hooton circuit we would easily beat Rotax drivers. (all above with no lead on ) We raced at GYG last week in the same grid as TKM 2s. They had a few S1 2 stroke drivers on the grid as well as the top club guys so some very good times on the sheets. We ran with old reds ( done GP plate , GYG in Feb and a practice session) so pretty well used.
In qualifying we got 4th with a 43.65 against the best of 43.43. We run at 162kg in race trim compared to 148kg for the 2 strokes.. By the final the tyres were useless and we were over 0.5s off the front runners.
I am obviously biased towards the TKM 4s so would always highly recommend it, but that aside it is a very good engine , 12000 rpm , 19hp , apart from oil change and pulse pump kit , virtually nothing else needed to do on it.
The 4s guys on here will back this up , S1 champion with a 2+ year old engine , we got 2nd in Juniors with an engine that won S1 in seniors 3 years ago and we have put loads of hours on it.
Get a test drive on one if you can, you will be pleased.
Regards
Mike
