In answer to recent interest, around the pits, in my digital equipment and methods for checking engines non invasively...
Honda engine(Gx160) scrutineering can now be done 'non invasively' with the latest digital equipment.
Ideally the engine is removed from the chassis. Simply remove your clutch, plug, flywheel tin casing and mount transducer on the pto end of the crankshaft.
Mount further gauges at plug hole and at rockers. You can then carry out checks by simply rotating the crankshaft and view the results on the gauges and digital displays.
Four typical example checks that can be carried out without going inside the engine are: # the cam profile mapped # the ignition timing # the side case orientation # the stroke checked, inline with bore
benefits to Honda owners include: # digital accuracy and repeatability # no rebuild costs due to scrutineering # no gaskets to replace # no oil to replace # quick turnaround
Obviously the non invasive checks will highlight any non standard parts or settings and can lead to the engine being opened up if further proof is wanted.
Non standard finish and mods can also be picked up with the latest usb microscopes attached to a laptop.
Hope this helps people understand what I am up to when I use my 'non invasive' kit on an engine.(these checks will always be additional to normal go/nogo and visual checks)
Kit development is ongoing and I guess it always will be as new 'ideas' flourish then new checks will be needed...
I welcome comments here and by email. (all my kit is developed exclusively by myself and is not on behalf of any other individual or organisation)
