gulp... spare set (plural) for a 4hr? surely one is extravagant enough. Two spare engines = running in time needed to get them up to speed/dead money sat in your awning all year 'just in case' and just hope the regs changing dont make it a white elephant yet again...
-is this where someone says the mounts are handed and the clutches are not the same way round? -Use an engine mount that isn't handed and have a clutch ready to fit whichever way round you want.
I reckon with today's daft chain guards/the added expense of quick release fuel connectors the quick change is not so quick/cost effective after all.
Likely things to go wrong in a 4 hr:(all dependant on maintainance carried out previously) # dirt in carb/filter, # v/v springs go off, # v/v colletts fail, # chain/s fail, # clutch slips # engine moves/chain slackens/comes off, # throttle cable stretches, # oil level drops so if using bare minimum oil and thin variety then expect to lose a rod now and again if not topped up/changed beforehand.
- these engines are bomb proof!
If you have the dosh to throw at slective parts engines and the latest specs then maybe a pair of spares with all the ancilliaries is a must have... otherwise get to know your engine and maybe build a spare but keep it in perspective and you will have more fun over the season.
I dont think we have met, CRU Racing, so welcome and if you fancy a bit of reading maybe have a look at the free ebook on my website. ( details in profile)
good luck! Brian P.
