I think some people may have got the wrong idea about the buy-back class. It was never intended that everyone should be compelled to be in it or comply with it. There should always be a class for people to spend as much as they want to on their engines, that’s racing, always has been, always will be. The intention of buy back is to encourage either new folk into the sport, or people who might have been deterred by the stories of what some drivers are (supposedly) spending on their engines. At the Kartmania show RPM were offering a fantastic deal of a complete race-prepared engine with clutch, de-baffled exhaust, pump and all the trimmings for £400 incl. That’s exactly what we need to bring more people into the sport. The buy-back scheme does not set out to restrict any one, there’s no compulsion to part with your lovingly prepared or expensive engine, just don’t enter the buy-back class. Simple. Buckmore Park, Bayford Meadows, Lydd and Formula 6 on the sprints and Bob Pope’s Euro Endurance series are all intending to have classes for buy-back next year.
