There is another type of stater that used a motorcycle starter motor that has a recoil bendix, and not a clutch cup roller bearing as previously discussed , these do have 2 m6 grub screws adjacent on the long shaft. If you undo these grub screws then you can move the shaft for and aft along the motor spindle spline, too close to the motor and the motor bendix will not engage the other way and the grub screws slip when tightened. Its just a case of positioning the long shaft correctly, one don then i would file a flat on spindle spline so that the grub screws have a better grip to stop shaft slipping. Hope this helps
