As a summary Rotax is more widespread than any other formula in the UK and over the next few years there will still be rotax racing wherever you want to race regardless of the changes recently and new formula coming. The main Rotax issue is quite big changes to the new Rotax engine and ancillaries which might be all for good reasons, but until it is out and the dust has settled (I suggest not until the end of 2016) to buy a new Rotax engine either current psec. or new evo spec. would not be a good idea. Your best solution would be to run with a good, sensibly priced used set up. Much less investment, hence if it is not quite for you, much less to loose! What do you weigh as that could have quite an affect on what you race? As a starter if you have never been in a full race kart (corperates - twin engine or not come no where near!!) try a Rotax taster with someone like KKC at Wilton mill. The next step might be get a used set up - ideally a returment package with all the spares / tools etc, then go IKR racing - this is non mSA but at the same tracks or similar. LKRC (near Newark)do Non MSA every third weekend. Tattershall and woodthorpe kart clubs do non MSA only. Or you can practice at most MSA tracks on the sat without the full MSA licence which can only be gained after doing an ARKS test, and you may also need a medical, and all your race wear will need to be MSA compliant, at IKR you need none of this, but they do still control safety. SYKC are at Wombwell - 2nd weekend of every month, they are MSA only but you can practice on the sat. I think 3 sisters at wigan do both Non MSA and MSA and also Hooton park near warrington. If you buy used, better to visit a few race meets first, get a feel for it, speak to people about karts engines, pricing levels etc, maybe get friendly with someone in the know whom can advise on any purchase. You should be able to get a half decent kart and Rotax senior engine for a beginner for about £2K, £3K would buy you something relatively new and possibly with a load of spares - wheels, tools etc.£4K you would be expecting top used kit.
