Rotax Max starting problems - starter or battery?

Hi
Kart has been garaged for about 3 years. Battery just charged (which was previously new) shows 12.4volts. Bendix cleaned.

When trying to start, turns over twice on the motor then makes a noise like it is sort of disengaged. So effectively it goes - turnover, turnover, whirr. If you hold the starter button, it just cycles through this process. Any thoughts please? Thanks Paul
