Philip, it makes sense and if anyone were qualified to do a sensible comparison you are. I suppose the better drivability of the x30 makes for a faster lap time, but that should only apply for the less experienced - with you driving that should be negated.
It's all arbitrary so long as you are racing against people with the same engine and the engine suits the driver - x30 should be more of a leveller as it is more drivable - very similar to when they brought in the minimax carb restrictors; it levelled out the racing and was a good move generally, a bad one for those that had spent a lot of driver time and effort gaining an edge with driver minimax throttle control. Reality is for someone coming in relaitivly new with drivability and a better overall tyre - competitive for more than one race day, compared to the Rotax EVO uncertainty, x30 has got to be attractive. wish I had shares in JM right now!!!! All good stuff!
