Your timing is perfect, about two weeks ago, your local track operator gave all the owner drivers the birdie and is now focused purely on stag parties driving gas powered corporate karts.
You don't get much talk of shifter karts on the forum but I'm fairly sure they do race them at Three Sisters over at Wigan.
Moving away from shifter gives you a few more options. For 2 stroke, Rotax Max will generally get you the biggest grids, although I'm sure others will be along to mention X30 which is growing and TKM.
For some reason, we Northerners are big on the Prokart scene which is very different to shifter and requires much smoother driving.
What you haven't mentioned is the level of racing you are wanting to do. Are you wanting to do a national series (World Series would be the American translation ;-) ) local club racing or even venture into endurance racing?
