I've been a tester for a number of years and I've only failed one or two in that period because they were a danger to themselves. i also failed their pro kart at "scrutineering" check over so that speaks volumes.
Concentrate on the DVD guys. You need to know about how a race meeting works, when you have to do the crucial bits of the event and in what order so you're not totally out of your depth. Also who the big cheeses are at a race meeting so you know who to be abusive to LOL. And flags, flags, flags - you need to get 100% on the flag questions, you can get a couple wrong elsewhere.
As far as the driving is concerned, be a reasonable speed and don't chuck it at the scenery too often. Regarding the Cadet Dad being on hand for the written test, I'd rather not have that situation because it puts too much pressure on the youngster. The instructor is allowed to read the questions, and will certainly help put them into Cadet-ese if they are a little convoluted.
Note in the MSA mag that came out today there was a clarification to the way Black/Yellow quartered flags are used (the Battenburg flag) but it won't affect the meaning as far as the ARKS test is concerned.
Good luck one and all, the test is designed to get you on track not trip you up. We all want to see safe, competent racers in the pack!
