Richydehav - I don't think anyone considers karting or any form of motorsport to be safe in the conventional sense and therefore when the risks are analyzed and measures are required to reduce those risks, whether in the form of changes to karts, circuits, helmets, track capacity, flags etc we have to assume that whatever those changes are, they have improved matters.

I think standing starts should be tried but I agree with Itpro having witnessed enough start line crashes over the years in other disciplines where serious injury or worse has resulted from a car not getting away as expected. I would be surprised if standing starts were made mandatory for clutched karts without other rule changes regarding safety equipment and additional marshalls watching the grid (for a raised hand so a flag could be waved for example)

Another problem I can foresee is that the majority of karters have only raced karts with full widtch bumpers and bodywork and a minority seem to think it's acceptable to exploit the disadvantages of those safety devices. Unless something can be done in the meantime to clamp down on those few offenders, surely devolution to previous ways could be catastrophic, with both offenders and innocent parties being affected as a result.

How would this affect karting if people turn up as interested newcomers and they get to see karts flipping all over the place? It's hardly going to attract newcomers is it?
