Mainly good advice above, but have to say I'm happy to run a clutch, and if I'm at any performance disadvantage it's incredibly small, as I tend to be within hundredths of drivers that I reckon to be of a similar standard to me.
Horstman has the advantage of being available on used engines, with quite a few used clutches appearing in the small ads and on ebay. But that really is all the advantages.
The V-Clutch can only be used with the new crank and crankcases specific to the clutch but...
It's quieter It's smoother It's much easier to maintain, yet requires less frequent maintenance The parts are cheaper You can change the front sprocket without replacing the whole clutch drum
I bit the bullet and bought a brand new V-Clutch engine last year. It has been absolutely great, I bought another this year so I have a spare. If you ever want to run without a clutch there's an adapter available that goes on the crank to convert to DD for Horstman or V-Clutch, but I haven't felt tempted yet.

(Ian, yes I KNOW I'm incredibly STUPID for running with a clutch, but I'm ENJOYING my KARTING... That's got to count for something hasn't it?)
