Just spent the evening doing a top end rebuild - the squish had dropped by .15mm due to build up on the piston crown and was getting close to the legal limit...
The ring was sticking mainly on the exhaust side - predictably - but was also sticking at the sides as well. I have replaced the ring and piston following a light cylinder hone. Just need to run it in now !
Does anyone have any suggestions for something to soak rings or pistons in to get rid of or soften up the carbon ?
with regard to the engines - I agree, they are well made and most difference seems to be in the carb settings, rather than the individual carbs themselves. The only let down is still the starter pulley - any news on whether a new material / design pulley is happening ? I am getting fed up with the wear between the palls and the pulley. Why can't they just make the pulley out of metal and be done with it ?
