It was good to see that the ‘trial’ round of the Teesside Rotax race series was a success.
Qualifying saw ’rookie’ driver Keely Cooper at her first ever race meeting stick it on the front row of the grid next to Sam Lane who took pole on a damp track.
The three heats were on a dry track and brought some incredibly close racing. Sam and Lee Crawford were battling at the front but unfortunately Lee’s kart let him down in round 2 with a DNF. A few kart lengths back, I was swapping places with Andy Garner and Ben Douthwaite on a regular basis through all of the heats too.
In the final, Sam and Lee battled at the front; further back, Andy and I raced for the last trophy, however due to a hesitation on Andy’s engine, I was able to pass him a couple of laps from the end.
Results were:
1st Sam Lane 2nd Lee Crawford (Fastest Lap) 3rd Mark Singer
Full results are on the Teesside Karting Facebook page.
It was good to see the double figure grid and several people who own Rotax turned up to watch and are looking to come and race next month too.
Dave Wilson ran a nice relaxed meeting and the paddock atmosphere was fantastic as usual.
My personal thanks go to Mike Crawford who helped me sort the poor low end performance that hindered me in qualifying.
Next meeting – 20th April.
