As promised - a bit of feedback..
Stripped and cleaned the carb last night including ultrasonic clean / airline etc. I found a small piece of swarf stubbornly lodged under the needle seat... Shades of the original Tryton carb problems ? Re-kitted and got pop off pressures at 20 / 12 psi !!
I then tried a few different weight springs and got the following results:
48g spring popoff 20 hold at 12 46g spring popoff 18 hold at 10 42g spring popoff 17 hold at 10 37g spring popoff 15 hold at 8 31g spring popoff 12 hold at 7 26g spring popoff 16 hold at 9 ????
Apart form the 26g spring, it would seem that there is a reasonably linear relationship between thee spring weights and the pressures. I would guess that there will be some variance between individual springs and carbs. These were with the paddle arm set level with the carb body.
I am intending to test a couple of settings at the weekend on the stand and on the track to see if the 'hunting' problem can be solved.
RE: Sausage fingers - I have found that using a magnetic screwdriver to hold the fixing nut in position to start the thread works well - result !! :)
