Just had a very frustrating day with the new engine / carb.
Using recommended settings, the engine seems to 'hunt' for fuel as it approaches top revs, with the rev level increasing and decreasing. Driver reported poor acceleration and top speed.
Changed plug (IW 27)and tried to adjust low / high jets on the stand - no joy. Stripped and cleaned the carb but had to re-use diaphragms etc as no replacement kit available at the track. No improvement. In the end I had to give up and strapped on the old (slower) Comer / Tryton which, if not fast, did actually run reliably apart from one stall !
I spoke to a couple of other Iame dads who reported similar problems with no definitive solution - it seems to come and go ??????
Has anybody else had this problem and found out why it occurs or if there is a solution ? I am guessing that the pop - off / closure pressures may be too high (measured pop off at 21psi, maintains at 18 psi)
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated before what is left of my hair gets torn out !!!!
