I would appreciate the opinion of anyone that moved from a cadet Zip Storm to a Lightning chassis. Is there a significant performance increase with the Lightning chassis over the Storm, or is it negligible ? If there is a significant improvement, what have you noticed - are they easier / harder to set up?
I am asking this as my lad is going to move into MSA racing next year and as my budget is somewhat limited, I am trying to find out whether to stick with his current Storm chassis or maybe get hold of a second hand Lightning.
We currently have a reasonable W60 / carb setup and the lad is not far (1.0-2.00 secs) off the fastest pace at the tracks that we have visited so far and laps consistently within a few tenths each lap. Whilst I know that this will improve with experience, the engine could do with a bit more oomph !
Would I be better off putting any funds towards a new Iame engine ? I quite enjoy rebuilding engines and, what with the cost of getting a Comer resealed, this is becoming an attractive proposition for the longer term. Should I stick with the Comer and put money into improving it if possible ?
Any comments / advice would be much appreciated.
