Having had problems at the weekend with the Tryton carb on my lad's Comer W60, I bought some of the Tillotson repair kits and rebuilt it this evening.
I was advised that the copper washer that comes with the kit (sits under the jet mounting in the older type Tillotson carbs) was not necessary. However, when I checked the pop off pressure, there seemed to be a leak around the base of the jet mounting. When I actually put in the washer, it sealed well with no leak.
Also, I have fitted an 8 coil spring (rather than the 10 coil spring) as advised. This gives a pop-off pressure of approx 14, falling to 8 psi and holding well.
The engine runs well with the kart on the stand (not yet track tested), with good bottom end pick up and top end revs.
What are people's general thoughts about using the washer or not and also about the lower pop-off pressure (as opposed to 21psi holding at approx 15 with the longer spring and a genuine Tryton carb rebuild kit) ?
Be gentle - this my first post here and I am a bit new to this karting game (thoroughly enjoying it so far though!)and realise that the Tryton carbs are a bit of a nightmare to set up and tune.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !!
