I've had similar problems in the past but it quickly resolved itself as the rubber ring bedded itself in and wore down a litte. But it is worth just swapping over a clutch drum and testing as you may have warped it slightly or the clutch itself sprung out slightly. Also look for any roughened surface on the clutch edges itself and just clean up with fine grade emery cloth.
You'll be amazed at how little rough surface contact can cause binding.
