The sprocket is fixed for each track and there is very little you can change on the chassis so the karts all tend to be pretty equal.
During the season you may want to have a top-end service and obviously there will be someone who gets it checked more often. Generally costs are reasonable for a national series.
You would certainly find some good competition so really depends on how much racing you want and if the lack of club meetings will be a problem.
