10,000rpm from a S13/BA13 doesn't sound enough.....did you ever actually measure it? The use of rev counters were virtually unheard of back then....or maybe the problem was your timing was too retarded!! I had a TG14L, which Had the same CEV points ignition system as the S13, my guess is that it revved to around 14,000 and it came with factory set timing of 3.8mm, and I always subsequently set it to 4.2mm at Stan Owens recomendation. There was no sudden big hike in revs, it was a chain of events over several years: the Thompson 15 roller big end bearing, single ring pistons, oval exhaust ports....what Rotax brought to the party was the less acute entry angle of the transfer ports. Itpro, are you SURE about Gates getting 21,000 ? Even then, rev counters were rare.....we're talking early 80's, pre oval exhausts, pre Rotax transfers, might even be pre single ring pistons....I'm a bit sceptical!
