Yeah well, all good fun these casual comparisons.
However, we all know what it would take to run a proper, scientific comparison. And after someone has gone to the trouble and expense of doing so, and has come up with reliable findings for that particular track, what do we do with the knowledge? Nothing. They’re both very fast in the right hands (i.e. not mine); end of story.
All this started with buzzinrussell telling us he loved his run in a gearbox kart. I’m certainly also among those who love the things. Over time, however, my own personal experience has been that the Aixro ‘wins’ beyond any doubt. Others may come to a different conclusion. That’s the beauty of choice.
As for cost: yep, you can pick up a decent gearbox kart for well less than half the money for an Aixro outfit. Indeed, the former look like incredible bang for buck. Over say three years, however, I am very confident that almost anyone would find the Aixro outfit to be far, far better value; factoring in both running cost and residual value.
Then there’s the whole ownership experience, the monetary value of which is for potential buyers to decide. The utter simplicity, reliability and oh so sweet, peerless performance of these engines are aspects of substantial value to me, as is the ‘quality’ of the current owner community. Fractional differences here and there in the speed between these two types of engine are certainly no deciding factor whatsoever.
