You are probably right on both counts but other than maybe 20 or 30 big team drivers the rest of us are independent competitors and have to refine the settings ourselves.

Most manufacturers seem to “evolve” their previous model so I guess it is sometimes better to stick with the brand you have as you will know the basic settings and also probably have a lot of interchangeable spares.
